Legal Secretary
An intensive online program designed to improve students’ skills to help them work more efficiently within a legal environment. This seven week course is suitable for both beginning and experienced secretaries who have a basic knowledge of typing and word processing. Students will learn the meaning and application of important legal terminology, ethics for the law office, important rules of civil procedure, elements of tort law and contract law, as well as many other elements of law office procedures and management.

This course provides individuals with new marketable job skills and helps current legal secretaries to increase efficiency and productivity in their offices.

The course is divided into three lessons over the course of seven weeks:

Lesson 1: Introduction to the theory of law, the legal process, and the nature of the practice of law. The process of law, specific terminology, as well as legal ethics will be discussed.

Lesson 2: The particulars of law office management are addressed in this lesson. Studies of law office technology, exposure to actual court documents, as well as individual preparation of documents will be learned.

Lesson 3: Final lesson is an examination of the intricacies of the law office, including office procedure manuals, billing techniques, and overall management techniques of the law office. The fundamentals of legal research and proper citation format will also be introduced.
