Case Studies: OUWB & Chemonics International

Organization Profile
Chemonics International is a global consulting firm promoting economic growth and higher living standards in developing countries. With offices on five continents and over 2,000 employees, Chemonics is one of the world's largest firms focusing exclusively on international development. From business to finance, governance to health, they help their clients make decisions that better people's lives.

The Challenge
Chemonics required a quick and effective solution for providing convenient knowledge to Project Communicators and Technical Experts in Communication within their organization. The learning experience had to provide their professionals with a common understanding of the various concepts and strategies used in strategic communication during international development projects. The learning outcomes also necessitated empowering their employees to identify steps to incorporate communication within their organizational project-planning framework.

The OUWB Solution
Ohio University Without Boundaries pulled together a highly knowledgeable and experienced team of professionals from Ohio University's Communication and Development program as well as faculty from LSU's Manship School of Mass Communication to begin the custom development of the course content. The learning experience was designed for online delivery to provide complete convenience for Chemonics professionals regardless of their location. A custom course interface was developed around the content with a complete focus on end-user ease of use and accessibility. The learning architecture blended a project-based approach with instructor-mediated asynchronous online discussion.

The OUWB approach provided a convenient and engaging means for professionals at Chemonics to acquire valuable knowledge that ultimately betters the lives of those they serve.
